Bald Eagle

Bald Eagles have yellow beaks, yellow feet and brown wings. Bald eagles are awake in the day. Bald eagles live for 20-30 years. Eagles eat fish, rodents and dead animals. Eagles have 3 eggs. Bald eagles migrate. Eagles communicate by saying "are". It sounds like a squeaky noise. It lives mostly at seacoasts or rivers or lakes.

Barn Owl

A barn owl is a bird. Barn owls fly and glide. They have a white face shaped like a heart. Barn owls have 2 to 6 babies. Barn owls have a lot of sounds. Some of them are bill snapping, hissing and grunts. A barn owl lives five to eleven years in the wild. They live in a tree or a barn or in fields. Barn owls have a few predators. They are eagles, hawks, foxes and crows. Barn owls eat a lot of animals. Some of them are insects, mice, voles, shrews and fish.

Black Bear

Black bears have a short tail. Black bears weigh 475 pounds. Black bears live in North America. They are a wake at night. They live 20 to 25 years. Their predators are brown bears. They have one to five babies. They eat berries.

Black Capped Chickadee
by I.J.

Black capped chickadees are birds. They have a black cap and bib. They have white cheeks and a white belly. They have a short plump body and a gray and black tail. A black-capped chickadee is 4.7 to 5.75 inches long. Eight inches is the wingspan. Black-capped chickadees live in Maine. Their habitats are mixed forests, open forests, fields, orchards, parks, gardens and urban areas. It eats sunflower seeds, suet, insect eggs, larva, insects, small berries, nuts, spiders, black berries, ragweed, spider eggs, weed seeds, goldenrod, wild fruits, blueberries and wild cherries. It flies in a flock. Its predators are Cooper's hawk, sharp shinned hawk and great horned owl. Black-capped chickadees make the sound of their name and they sound like this "chickadee-dee-dee". Female chickadees have 6 to 16 babies a year. All chickadees can hang upside down, hop to search for food and climb up a nearly vertical tree.

Bobcats are mammals. Bobcats have tufts of hair on their ears. They have one to two cubs. It sounds like a lion. They have 1 to 2 babies. It lives 10 to 14 years. It eats fish. It gets places by running.

Coyote

Coyotes are mammals. They are 43 to 53 inches and 30 to 40 pounds. Coyotes are gray and reddish gray. Coyotes live 8 years. Coyotes hunt for food. Coyotes teeth are long. They have 4 to 7 cubs. Coyotes run or walk. Coyotes can eat a deer and little animals.

Gray Squirrel

Gray squirrels are mammals.They are six inches long. They have a bushy tail that is black, brown and white. A gray squirrel's habitat is pine forests, ground, trees, deserts and nut trees. Its predators are foxes, raccoons, hawks, owls and bobcats. A squirrel has 3 up to 5 babies. When babies are first born only 3 or 4 survive. Squirrels live in oak trees, hickory trees and walnut trees. It sounds like a hamster kind of squeal. A squirrel eats seeds, berries, acorns, walnuts, beechnuts, pine cones, eggs, baby birds and insects.

Harbor Seal

Harbor seals are marine mammals. A harbor seal has a rounded body. It is black or gray with white spots on its back. They have flippers. They weigh 110 to 375 pounds. They eat fish and squid. It swims in the water. Its lifespan is about 25 to 30 years. They bark like a dog. They have 1 baby.

Herring Gull

Herring gulls are birds. They have 2 or 3 young. They eat fish. They are awake at day. They mew, laugh or wail. It has webbed feet and has white and gray feathers. A herring gull has a yellow bill. It's 20 inches long. Herring gulls would migrate in winter. They live at seacoasts, oceans, lakes and rivers.

Lobster

A lobster is red and black. They eat mussels, crabs, clams, worms, snails, flounder and other lobsters. It lives to be 100 years old. It's awake at night. They live in the sea. It communicates by snapping its claws.

Phoebe

A phoebe is a bird. It is seven inches and olive green. It wags its tail. Phoebes eat bees, butterflies, grasshoppers and flies. In winter it migrates. It has four or five babies. It says "phoebe". It lives in woods near streams, cliffs, bridges and buildings.

Red Fox

Red foxes are mammals. They have sharp curved claws. Red foxes live1 to 2 years. They live in plains, deserts and forests. Red fox babies are called kits. They have 4 to 8 kits. Red foxes eat crows, fruit, moles and voles. Their predators are bears and wolves. Red foxes hunt in winter to survive. They are awake at night.

Red Squirrel

A red squirrel is a mammal. It is reddish-colored. It weighs 7 to 9 ounces. A squirrel's body is 11 to 13 inches long. Squirrels' habitats are pine and hardwood forests. They eat seeds, nuts, berries, eggs, baby birds, insects, acorns, worms and pinecones. Squirrels move by jumping, climbing and flying. A red squirrel's predators are foxes, cats, hawks, coyotes, weasels, marten and bobcats.

Skunk

Wood Duck

A wood duck is a bird. It is medium sized but in flight its long tail makes this duck appear larger. It's colorful. A wood duck lives in a down lined tree hole often high above the ground. It lives thirteen years. It lays twelve eggs. It lives in backwaters of rivers and streams and woodland lakes. They sound like an alarm call. They eat whatever floats in their mouths.
